Richard Williams dies in fatal Summerville home invasion shooting

Fatal Summerville shooting death of Richard Williams – Obituary.

A 42-year-old man, Richard Williams, was fatally shot during an attempted home invasion in the early morning hours of May 7 in Summerville. According to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Hope Drive around 1 a.m. after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Williams, who was suspected of trying to force his way into the home, deceased at the scene.

 

The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity. At this time, no charges have been filed related to the incident. South Carolina’s “castle doctrine” law, also known as the stand-your-ground law, protects citizens in situations like this one, allowing them to defend themselves without fear of legal consequences. This law does not require individuals to retreat when confronted with intruders or attackers.
