Fatal Brookings County car crash death of Taylor Neil Johnson – Obituary

Taylor Neil Johnson, 34, of Hendricks, Minnesota, lost his life in a head-on collision Monday afternoon just north of Bushnell in Brookings County, South Dakota. The accident happened around 4:51 p.m. on May 5, 2025, at the junction of 478th Avenue and 209th Street.

 

According to preliminary findings from the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Johnson was behind the wheel of a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe heading south on 478th Avenue. For reasons still under review, his vehicle entered the northbound lane and struck an oncoming 1985 Freightliner Conventional FLC head-on.

 

Johnson, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner, 67-year-old Randall Dean Willmott from White, South Dakota, was wearing his seat belt and sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries.

 

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. All details provided are still considered preliminary.
