Fatal Atherton bicycle-truck crash death of Dylan Taylor – Obituary
Dylan Taylor, a freshman football coach at Menlo-Atherton High School, tragically died Wednesday morning following a crash with a garbage truck in Atherton, California. The collision occurred around 7:40 a.m. near the intersection of Middlefield Road and Prior Lane, according to Atherton Police.
Authorities reported that Taylor was riding his bicycle south in the designated bike lane when he was struck by a garbage truck making a right turn onto Prior Lane from Middlefield Road. Emergency personnel transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
This marks the first traffic-related fatality in Atherton for the year. The truck driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. At this time, police have found no evidence that drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
Police Chief Steven McCulley offered his condolences, stating the department will increase patrols in the area to promote traffic safety for cyclists, drivers, and pedestrians. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner confirmed Taylor’s identity, and school officials expressed deep sorrow over his sudden passing.
