Ethan Austin, a 19-year-old from Rockford, was fatally shot early Friday morning outside a local liquor store, according to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office. The incident occurred just after midnight on May 9, 2025, at Broadway Food and Liquor, located at 2710 Broadway Street.

Authorities reported that a fight broke out in the store’s parking lot, during which Austin was shot. He was transported to a hospital following the shooting, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

As of now, police have not disclosed whether any suspects have been apprehended in connection with the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, and officials are asking anyone with information to reach out to the Rockford Police Department.
