Fatal Benton County crash death of James L. Sandall – Obituary
James L. Sandall, a 68-year-old man from Yakima, was killed in a traffic collision Friday morning along Highway 24 in Benton County, near the Vernita Bridge by the Hanford site.
According to the Washington State Patrol, Sandall was driving a 2018 Corvette and attempted to merge onto the highway from the Vernita Rest Area when his vehicle was struck by a GMC Sierra pickup truck. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on the two-lane stretch commonly referred to as the Hanford highway.
Sandall was rushed to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, where he was pronounced dead. The passenger in his vehicle, 62-year-old Carrie A. Greenough of Yakima, and the driver of the GMC, Rhonda G. Procell, 66, of Bovill, Idaho, were both transported to the same hospital with injuries, although their conditions were not disclosed.
A passenger in the pickup, Robin D. Taylor, 65, from Rochester, Washington, was not injured. The Washington State Patrol confirmed that all individuals involved had been wearing seat belts.
The crash remains under investigation, and further details were not immediately available.
