Jeffrey C. Little, 62, of Brandon, Mississippi, was one of three individuals killed in a devastating boating accident during the Major League Fishing (MLF) Tackle Warehouse Invitational on Alabama’s Lewis Smith Lake. The crash occurred early Wednesday morning, prompting the cancellation of the tournament’s final day.
According to authorities, the collision happened at approximately 7 a.m. when a Nitro bass boat, operated by MLF angler Flint Davis of Leesburg, Georgia, struck a center console boat carrying three men. Little, along with John K. Clark, 44, of Cullman, Alabama, and Joey M. Broom, 58, of Altoona, Alabama, lost their lives in the impact. Two of the victims were ejected from the boat and drowned, while the third succumbed to traumatic injuries shortly afterward.
In a statement, MLF executive vice president Kathy Fennel expressed condolences, calling the incident a heartbreaking moment for the organization and extending sympathies to the victims’ families and friends.
The accident occurred during a tournament that had been underway since Sunday and featured a top prize of $115,000. Following the tragedy, all remaining events were canceled out of respect for those affected.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol Division has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the collision. No further details have been made public at this time.
