A deadly boating accident took place on Wednesday morning during the Major League Fishing (MLF) Tackle Warehouse Invitational at Lewis Smith Lake in Alabama, resulting in the deaths of three men and injuries to others. The crash prompted organizers to cancel the final day of the tournament.

MLF executive vice president Kathy Fennel expressed the organization’s sorrow, stating, “This is a heartbreaking moment for our entire organization. Our thoughts are with the victims’ families and friends during this tragic time.”

Authorities report that the incident occurred around 7 a.m. when a Nitro bass boat, being piloted by competing angler Flint Davis of Leesburg, Georgia, collided with a center console boat. The impact claimed the lives of three passengers in the latter vessel: John K. Clark, 44, from Cullman, Alabama; Jeffrey C. Little, 62, of Brandon, Mississippi; and Joey M. Broom, 58, from Altoona, Alabama. Two victims were thrown into the lake and drowned, while the third succumbed to injuries later.

In a social media post, Flint Davis thanked supporters for their prayers, acknowledging the tragedy without offering further comment on the incident.

The fishing tournament, which had been underway since Sunday and featured a grand prize of $115,000, was called off following the accident.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol Division has launched an investigation into the crash. Additional information has not yet been disclosed.

The incident has left a lasting impact on the competitive fishing community and highlighted the potential dangers that come with the sport.
