Valerie Ann Cadwallader, 48, was fatally shot Thursday afternoon in Butte Creek Canyon during an encounter with a deputy from the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities reported that the incident stemmed from a call regarding alleged threats Cadwallader had made toward a neighbor. When deputies arrived on the scene, the situation escalated, ultimately leading to one deputy firing a fatal shot.

District Attorney Mike Ramsey confirmed Cadwallader’s identity but stated that the name of the deputy involved will be withheld for now. The shooting remains under investigation by the district attorney’s office and other local authorities.
