Fatal Valencia freeway death of Scott Petri – Obituary

Scott Petri, 57, of Valencia, lost his life Friday night after he jumped from a bridge onto the 5 Freeway, where he was fatally struck by at least one vehicle. The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. at the Weldon Canyon overpass, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol’s Newhall Area Office.

Witnesses saw Petri standing on the overpass, appearing to look down at the freeway before he jumped. Emergency responders arrived shortly after several 911 calls and found Petri had died at the scene from his injuries. His vehicle was discovered parked nearby along The Old Road, not far from the overpass.

Authorities have not yet determined whether substances such as drugs or alcohol contributed to the tragedy. The case remains under investigation.

In response, Captain E. A. Krusey of the CHP issued a reminder about the importance of mental health support, urging those in distress to seek help and emphasizing that resources and assistance are always available.
