Fatal DeSoto County shooting death of Matthew Steven Rollie – Obituary

Matthew Steven Rollie, 30, was killed in a police-involved shooting in Arcadia, Florida, after allegedly opening fire on deputies during a traffic stop. The incident occurred around 2:16 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, along State Road 72 between Thigpen Road and Addison Avenue.

 

DeSoto County deputies had initiated the stop after receiving information from Forsyth County, Georgia, where Rollie was wanted for enticing a child for indecent purposes. Authorities also discovered that Rollie, a registered sex offender, had failed to register in DeSoto County as required.

 

According to the sheriff’s office, Rollie was the passenger in the vehicle and pulled out a gun during the stop, shooting and injuring one of the deputies. Deputies returned fire, fatally striking him at the scene.

 

The injured deputy survived and is currently recovering at home.
