Fatal Southwest Houston car crash death of James Robert Lopez Ayala – Obituary
James Robert Lopez Ayala, 14, was killed in a tragic vehicle accident Saturday night in Southwest Houston, authorities confirmed.
The crash took place in the 3800 block of West Fuqua when a gray Buick Enclave carrying three juveniles veered off the road and struck a tree in the center median before returning to the roadway and stopping. Ayala, seated in the back of the car, was unable to escape and remained trapped inside.
The 16-year-old driver and a 14-year-old front passenger fled the scene on foot immediately after the crash, but both later came back, police said. Investigators believe the driver lost control of the car for reasons that are still being determined.
Paramedics declared Ayala dead at the scene. The driver was arrested and charged with failing to stop and render aid. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case and may pursue charges against both of the surviving juveniles.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences confirmed Ayala’s identity.
