John Clay dies in fatal Caldwell County pedestrian crash

Fatal Caldwell County pedestrian crash death of John Clay – Obituary

John Clay, 77, of Lenoir, passed away two days after being struck by a vehicle in Caldwell County, according to reports from state troopers.

The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Monday, May 5, on Rocky Road near Gamewell School Road. Authorities say Clay was in the roadway when a southbound Nissan Altima hit him.

He sustained critical injuries and was flown to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Despite medical efforts, he died from his injuries on Wednesday, May 7.

The driver of the Nissan was not injured in the collision. Investigators determined that neither speed nor impairment contributed to the crash. As a result, no charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
