Fatal east Columbus shooting death of Renita Hilson Ziegler – Obituary

Renita Hilson Ziegler, 58, was found dead Monday afternoon in a murder-suicide that occurred near an elementary school in the 400 block of South Hampton Road in east Columbus. The Franklin County Coroner later confirmed that the incident was a murder-suicide, with 64-year-old Anthony Martin identified as the suspect.

Columbus police responded to the scene around 3:21 p.m. and discovered two people with fatal gunshot wounds. Medics pronounced both individuals dead on site.

According to officials, a relative who had not heard from one of the victims in several days went to check on them and discovered the bodies inside the residence. Sgt. Joe Albert of the Public Information Unit said the deaths were initially under investigation before the coroner determined the final cause.

A neighbor reported seeing the male resident at the home the day before the incident. Authorities continue to investigate the details surrounding the tragedy.
