Fatal Hephzibah hit-and-run death of Taveon Wright – Obituary
A 24-year-old man, Taveon Wright, tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run incident on Windsor Spring Road in Hephzibah on Monday afternoon. Authorities confirmed the incident occurred at 2:08 p.m. near the 3600 block of Windsor Spring Road, close to Cross Creek Road. When deputies arrived, they found Wright lying on the roadway and he was pronounced dead at 2:45 p.m. by the Richmond County Coroner’s Office.
Coroner Mark Bowen reported that Wright was crossing Windsor Spring Road when a vehicle heading south struck him. The driver of the vehicle, 45-year-old Chiquita Dawson, fled the scene and parked her car at Richmond County Fire Department Station 18. Dawson attempted to escape on foot but was quickly caught by deputies and arrested. She was later taken to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
Dawson has a history of previous arrests, including charges for cocaine possession, DUI, and leaving the scene of an accident. She was sentenced to four years in prison for the cocaine charge in 2001. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the crash, and an autopsy for Wright is scheduled.
