Andrew Libby, 39, tragically lost his life following a fuel tank explosion at an ammunition facility located on Camp Stanley grounds near Boerne, Texas, authorities confirmed.

 

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning when a free-standing fuel tank detonated, severely injuring Libby. Despite being rushed to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries later that day.

 

Camp Stanley, part of the greater Camp Bullis area, is known for receiving, testing, storing, shipping, renovating, and demilitarizing conventional arms, ammunition, and explosives to support military operations globally.

 

Officials have not yet clarified whether Libby was a civilian employee or a military member. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has not released details on the specific cause or manner of death.

 

Authorities reported that the situation is now contained and confirmed there is no ongoing risk to employees or the public.

 

A spokesperson for the U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command expressed condolences for the loss and stated that the incident is under investigation. They also emphasized the commitment to employee and community safety and pledged to take measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
