Fatal Bastrop County car crash death of Chloe Rios – Obituary

Chloe Rios, an 18-year-old resident of Smithville, Texas, was one of the victims who died in a tragic crash on the morning of May 10 in Bastrop County. The fatal accident took place along State Highway 71 near McAllister Road, as confirmed by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Rios was riding in a 2010 Nissan Sentra when a 2022 Tesla, traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes, collided head-on with the vehicle. Investigators say the Nissan attempted to swerve away from the oncoming Tesla, but a crash was inevitable.

Both Rios and 20-year-old Ja Michael Houston, also from Smithville and in the same vehicle, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Tesla, 33-year-old Zaldivar Espinosa of Austin, was taken to a hospital after the crash but later died from his injuries. Authorities stated Espinosa was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.

An investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety is ongoing to determine the full details surrounding the collision.
