Fatal Bastrop County car crash death of Chloe Rios, Ja Michael Houston, and Zaldivar Espinosa – Obituary
Three individuals lost their lives in a tragic vehicle collision that occurred on the morning of May 10 along State Highway 71 in Bastrop County, Texas. According to authorities with the Texas Highway Patrol, a 2022 Tesla was traveling westbound in the wrong direction on the eastbound lanes of the highway when it collided with a 2010 Nissan Sentra near McAllister Road.
Investigators reported that the Nissan’s driver tried to avoid the Tesla, but a crash was unavoidable. Both passengers in the Nissan, identified as 18-year-old Chloe Rios and 20-year-old Ja Michael Houston of Smithville, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The individual behind the wheel of the Tesla, 33-year-old Zaldivar Espinosa from Austin, sustained injuries and later died at a hospital. Authorities noted that Espinosa had not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the impact.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is currently conducting an investigation to determine the full circumstances that led to the crash.
