Fatal Hawthorn East car crash death of Jack Davey – Obituary

Jack Davey, 11, tragically lost his life after a car crashed through a fence at Auburn South Primary School in Hawthorn East, striking him and four other students. The incident occurred just after 2:30 p.m. on October 29 of last year.

Police report that the vehicle, driven by a 40-year-old woman, veered off Burgess Street and plowed through the school fence. Jack, along with four classmates aged 10 and 11, was seated on the school grounds when the crash happened. Jack sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he later passed away. The four other children were seriously hurt but survived.

A young child who was in the car with the driver was unharmed.

The devastating crash deeply impacted the Auburn South Primary School community, with tributes and flowers left at the site in remembrance of Jack.

Authorities arrested the driver at the scene but initially released her as investigations continued. On May 13, Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives formally charged her with careless driving and failing to maintain control of a vehicle.
