Fatal Maghull crash death of Jay Newby-Gallagher – Obituary

Jay Newby-Gallagher, aged 34, lost his life in a motorcycle crash that occurred on Northway in Maghull on the morning of Wednesday, May 14. The collision involved a Suzuki motorcycle and a blue Renault Zoe near the Aldi store at the junction with Dover Road. Jay, a local resident, was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency services’ swift response.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, flowers and heartfelt notes were placed at the location where the crash happened. One emotional tribute came from a passerby who had seen Jay just moments before the incident, expressing shock and sorrow: “We didn’t know you, but we will never forget your name. You’re riding with the angels now. Rest in peace.”

Authorities have since arrested a 34-year-old woman from South Tyneside on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

The area surrounding the crash site, including parts of Northway (A59) and Liverpool Road South between Hall Lane and Switch Island, remained closed while police carried out their investigation. Drivers were urged to seek alternative routes.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from Merseyside Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit appealed to the public for assistance. He noted that the road was likely busy with commuters and school traffic at the time and encouraged anyone with dashcam or phone footage to come forward.

He also extended gratitude to bystanders who provided aid at the scene and shared condolences with Jay’s loved ones.
