Authorities have identified 19-year-old Joseph A. Del Sordo from Media as the driver who died following a violent Easter morning incident in Chadds Ford Township that involved both a car crash and gunfire. The Chester County Coroner’s Office confirmed Del Sordo passed away on April 29 in Willistown Township, days after the crash that occurred at the intersection of Baltimore Pike and Wilmington West Chester Pike.
Investigators from the Pennsylvania State Police reported that both Del Sordo and a 17-year-old girl from Brookhaven, who was the passenger in the vehicle, had been shot while inside the car. The teenager was declared dead at the scene shortly after the vehicle, a black BMW sedan, flipped onto its roof after hitting a utility pole early on April 20.
Authorities said they received a call about a single-vehicle crash around 3:37 a.m. on Easter morning. Del Sordo was found critically injured and transported to Paoli Hospital Trauma Center, where he succumbed to his injuries nine days later. Police also revealed that the BMW had been speeding and had run multiple red lights as it traveled southbound on Baltimore Pike just before the crash. However, law enforcement has not yet disclosed how the gunfire within the car occurred or what led to the shots being fired. The investigation into the circumstances remains ongoing.
