Fatal Long Beach freeway crash death of Laura Sanchez Ruiz – Obituary

Laura Sanchez Ruiz, a 46-year-old woman from Pico Rivera, was killed Monday night in a violent accident on the Artesia (91) Freeway near Long Beach. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that her death was caused by multiple blunt force injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Ruiz had been driving a Scion XD eastbound on the freeway near Cherry Avenue when the vehicle suddenly caught fire and broke down around 10:29 p.m. She exited the car in response to the fire.

Moments later, a Toyota Camry driver attempting to avoid a collision swerved but clipped the disabled Scion. The impact pushed the Scion into Ruiz, throwing her into the westbound lanes where she was struck by several vehicles. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol is seeking any witnesses who may have seen the crash. Those with information are urged to contact CHP at 562-649-6800.
