Fatal Westchester car crash death of Robert Violante – Obituary

Robert Violante was among four individuals who lost their lives in a tragic multi-vehicle collision on the Taconic State Parkway in Westchester County on Wednesday, May 14, according to state police.

The deadly incident occurred near mile marker 9.2 in the town of New Castle, close to exits 8 and 9. Authorities say a Sprinter van heading south crossed over the median and slammed into a northbound Honda sedan. The impact caused the van to overturn and catch fire.

Three passengers in the van died at the scene. Violante, who was reportedly driving the Honda, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital shortly after the crash. The driver of the van survived but remains in critical condition at Westchester Medical Center.

The crash led to the closure of the northbound lanes of the Taconic Parkway for several hours. State police reopened the road around 11:20 p.m. and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Violante, a respected football coach at Bergenfield High School in New Jersey, was remembered by the New Jersey Football Coaches Association as an exemplary mentor and family man.
