Fatal Joppa fire death of W. Cliff Long – Obituary
Authorities are continuing to investigate a deadly house fire in Joppa that resulted in two fatalities, including 82-year-old W. Cliff Long, officials confirmed on May 14.
The blaze broke out on Gunpowder Drive around 8:10 a.m., prompting a response from the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company along with nearby fire departments.
When a senior fire official and a deputy from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office reached the scene, they were informed that two individuals might still be trapped inside the burning structure.
In a swift effort to save lives, the fire officer and deputy entered the residence and rescued W. Cliff Long, bringing him out to emergency medical personnel. Despite their efforts, Long did not survive. The identity of the second deceased individual has not been released as investigations by the deputy state fire marshals continue.
