Fatal Bakersfield Highway 58 crash death of Abram Raymond Perez – Obituary
Abram Raymond Perez, 18, from Delano, lost his life in a suspected DUI crash early Saturday morning, April 26, 2025, on Highway 58 near Bena Road in Bakersfield, California.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 3:43 a.m. Investigators say a 2002 Mazda pickup truck was heading east at speeds between 70 and 75 miles per hour when it approached a slow-moving 2016 Freightliner semi-truck towing a trailer, which was climbing a hill at about 35 miles per hour.
The Mazda was unable to reduce speed in time and slammed into the back of the semi’s trailer. Perez, who was a passenger in the Mazda, died at the scene from his injuries. The pickup’s driver suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Kern Medical for treatment.
Authorities reported that the driver of the Freightliner stopped right away and fully cooperated with investigators. Preliminary findings suggest alcohol or drugs may have played a role in the crash.
Family and friends of Abram Perez have created a roadside memorial and launched a GoFundMe campaign to help support his loved ones during this time of mourning.
