Isaiah Moreno dies in fatal Fremont County car crash

Fatal Fremont County car crash death of Isaiah Moreno – Obituary

Isaiah Moreno, a 25-year-old man from Humble, Texas, was one of seven individuals who lost their lives in a devastating crash on May 1 along U.S. Highway 20 in Fremont County, Idaho. The collision took place near Yellowstone National Park when the Dodge Ram pickup driven by Moreno veered into oncoming traffic and struck a Mercedes tour van head-on.

Moreno was the lone occupant of the pickup and was pronounced dead at the scene. The tour van, operated by Ctour Holiday LLC, was carrying 14 international passengers. The crash ignited a fire that engulfed the van, resulting in six additional fatalities: Ivana Wen, 28, of Milan, Italy; Jianping Li, 71, of Guangxi, China; Li Nie, 64, and Aifeng Wan, 53, both of Arcadia, California; Xiaoming Jiang, 66, of Guilin, China; and the driver of the van, Yu Zhang, 30, of Eastvale, California.

According to the Idaho State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. Though the cause of the pickup’s lane departure remains under investigation, authorities say the impact and subsequent fire made the scene especially hazardous and complicated.

Three passengers from the van were seriously injured and airlifted to hospitals in Bozeman, Montana, and Idaho Falls. Other injured survivors were taken to local medical facilities with non-life-threatening injuries.

Captain Chris Weadick of ISP District 6 noted the complexity of the investigation due to the high number of fatalities and involvement of foreign nationals. Fremont County Coroner Brenda Dye praised the collaborative effort between her office, the Ada County Coroner’s Office, and state forensic services for accurately identifying the victims.

The highway was closed for about seven hours while emergency crews responded, secured the area, and began their investigation. Authorities stated that crash reconstruction and lab testing are still in progress, and the investigation remains ongoing.
