Authorities in East Liverpool, Ohio, have confirmed that 58-year-old James Powell lost his life following a shooting that took place last week.

According to East Liverpool Police Chief John Lane, Powell was the victim of a violent incident believed to be linked to a romantic dispute.

Investigators say the shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Eutaw and Montrose streets. Responding officers discovered Powell at the scene, while the suspected shooter, Daniel Clayton Whitley, had already fled the area.

Whitley was later arrested and has been charged in relation to the shooting. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, May 22 at 1 p.m.
