Masashi Kawasaki, a 69-year-old resident of Charlottesville, tragically lost his life in a weekend vehicle collision in Madison County, Virginia. According to the Virginia State Police, Kawasaki was seated in the back of a 2017 Volkswagen Golf when it was struck in a multi-vehicle crash.
The incident took place at the intersection of South Seminole Trail and Wolftown-Hood Road. The Volkswagen was the initial vehicle impacted during the crash, which also involved several other cars including a Hyundai Tucson, a Ford F-150, a Subaru Outback, and a Ford F-350.
Authorities noted that Kawasaki was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of one of the other vehicles, identified as Thomas J. Whittle, has been charged with reckless driving.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing as officials continue to gather information. Kawasaki’s death is a devastating loss for his community and loved ones.
