Fatal George Washington Memorial Parkway accident death of Dr. Marla Holden – Obituary

Dr. Marla Holden, 61, of Fort Washington, lost her life when a tree fell onto her car while she was driving home from work along the George Washington Memorial Parkway near Morningside Lane and Mount Vernon Circle. The incident occurred during Friday’s severe storms that caused extensive damage in the area.

Holden, who had been a project manager at George Washington’s Mount Vernon for six years, was known for her resilience and accomplishments. Her husband shared that she raised her children as a single mother, put herself through college, launched her own business, and traveled widely as a photographer.

Pastor Jesse Johnson and a group of bystanders tried to rescue her from the vehicle but were unable to reach her in time. She was one of two women who died in separate incidents involving falling trees during the storm. The second victim, who was struck on Frye Road, has not yet been publicly identified.

Crews continue to work along a 2.5-mile stretch of the parkway to clear debris from approximately 15 fallen trees, as cleanup efforts remain underway.
