Fatal Honolulu pedestrian crash death of Eteuati Tutuvanu – Obituary

A tragic accident on Nimitz Highway claimed the life of 62-year-old Eteuati Tutuvanu on Sunday night, according to the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office. Authorities report that Tutuvanu was struck by two separate vehicles while attempting to cross the road near the airport.

The incident occurred at around 9:25 p.m. as Tutuvanu was crossing the highway outside of a marked crosswalk. He was initially hit by a vehicle driven by a 66-year-old man heading eastbound. The impact caused Tutuvanu to fall, and he was subsequently struck by another vehicle operated by a 29-year-old man.

Emergency responders transported Tutuvanu to a hospital in critical condition, but he later succumbed to his injuries.

Both drivers involved, along with a 66-year-old woman who was a passenger in the first car, remained at the scene and were uninjured. Investigators noted that speed, alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.

This marks the 29th traffic-related fatality on Oʻahu so far this year, a significant increase compared to the 11 reported at the same time last year. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
