Glenn Pettie died after being shot by police during a mental health crisis on Sunday evening, May 18, in Baltimore County, Maryland.

 

The incident unfolded at approximately 7:20 p.m. along the 8200 block of N. Boundary Road near Patapsco High School, drawing a significant law enforcement response. Authorities from the Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division stated that Pettie and a police officer exchanged gunfire during the encounter.

 

Pettie was struck during the exchange and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. A loaded firearm was recovered near his body, investigators confirmed.

 

Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough reported that two officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues. Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing danger to the public.
