Juanita Cortinas has been identified by the Austin Police Department as the woman who died in a collision on East Riverside Drive in southeast Austin.

The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, in the 2300 block of East Riverside Drive. Authorities stated that Cortinas was a passenger in a silver vehicle involved in the collision with a white car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the silver car sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The individual operating the white car had only minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

According to Austin Police, this marks the city’s 32nd fatal crash of 2025, bringing the total number of traffic-related deaths in the city this year to 36.
