Fatal Milwaukee hit-and-run death of Roberto Deleon – Obituary

Roberto Deleon, 90, was tragically killed in Milwaukee after being struck by a speeding car whose driver then fled the scene, authorities said. The incident occurred on the night of May 10, 2025, in the 1000 block of South 35th Street. Raul Herrera, 41, has been arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in death.

According to a criminal complaint, Milwaukee police responded around 9:41 p.m. following multiple emergency calls reporting a pedestrian being hit by a fast-moving vehicle. One caller described the victim’s head as severely injured, noting the driver had already taken off.

Soon after, another caller informed dispatchers that she had been a passenger in the vehicle that hit the victim. She explained that the driver refused to stop, prompting her to jump from the moving car in order to report the incident.

When first responders arrived, they found Deleon unresponsive. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy revealed he died from blunt force trauma, including head wounds, brain hemorrhaging, and multiple broken ribs.

The woman who had been in the car identified Herrera in a photo lineup. She told investigators that earlier that evening, she had joined Herrera and another man, known only as “Chi Longo,” for dinner and drinks. Herrera had been driving a friend’s red 2002 Ford Mustang convertible with a tan top. After stopping to buy vodka and beer, they drove to an auto body shop.

The witness recalled that Herrera was driving recklessly and speeding. When she voiced concern, he reportedly told her to “shut up.” While she was looking at her phone, she heard Herrera shout before the car struck something. She quickly realized they had hit a person and pleaded with Herrera to stop, but he refused. As the vehicle slowed slightly, she jumped out while it was still in motion. Herrera allegedly kept driving without stopping.

Thanks to the information she provided, police located Herrera and the vehicle, which had a large hole on the driver’s side of the windshield. Officers noted Herrera dropped an empty beer can as he walked away. Inside the car, investigators found broken glass with suspected human hair. The second male passenger also confirmed that Herrera had been driving at the time of the crash.

Herrera reportedly admitted to driving after consuming alcohol and marijuana. He is currently being held at Milwaukee County Jail on $120,000 bail.
