Fatal Oregon City officer-involved shooting death of Scott Alan Farmer – Obituary

Scott Alan Farmer, 58, died following an officer-involved shooting in Oregon City on May 16, 2025, after police responded to a call about a suicidal man armed with a handgun.

Early that morning, Farmer called a non-emergency police line stating he intended to take his own life, then hung up without giving his name. Officers arrived at his Clairmont Way residence shortly after, and his wife alerted 911 that Farmer had gone outside armed. When police planned to deescalate, Farmer re-entered his home but then came back outside with a loaded handgun.

He ignored police commands to show his hands, then fired five shots at Officer Sydney Oden, who returned fire three times, hitting Farmer in the hip. After the exchange, Farmer apologized but refused to drop his weapon. At 5:07 a.m., Farmer shot himself and died at the scene.

The entire confrontation was captured on police body cameras. Officer Oden has been placed on critical incident leave, and the Clackamas County Major Crimes team along with the District Attorney’s Office continue their investigation into the use of force.
