The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has confirmed that 24-year-old Spencer Marrujo from Inglewood died after being struck by a semi-truck earlier this month. The incident occurred on May 6 at around 10:20 p.m. on northbound Highway 99, just south of Atwater Boulevard.

 

According to California Highway Patrol officers, Marrujo was driving a 1979 Chevrolet Silverado when the truck bed camper he was towing detached and fell into the right lane. Marrujo reportedly stopped his vehicle and exited to move the camper off the road. At that moment, a 2023 Kenworth semi-truck, operated by a 38-year-old man from Visalia, collided with both the camper and Marrujo. The semi-truck then struck the Chevrolet, pushing it into the left lane.

 

A 28-year-old woman from Coarsegold was also found injured at the scene and was airlifted to a hospital in Modesto, where she remains in stable condition. The semi-truck driver was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
