Fatal Kenosha County car crash death of Wayne N. Stade – Obituary
Wayne N. Stade, a 77-year-old resident of Kenosha, lost his life early in the morning on May 13 after being hit by a vehicle while trying to cross Highway 31 near 35th Street in the Village of Somers. The incident happened just after 3 a.m., according to a Tuesday update from the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department.
The motorist involved in the crash remained at the location and quickly contacted emergency services. Authorities stated that the driver was not injured and is cooperating fully with the investigation.
Emergency teams from the Somers Fire Department and the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office responded within minutes, but despite their efforts, Stade was declared dead at the scene by the Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Kenosha County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was brought in to help reconstruct the crash and assist with the investigation, which is still ongoing. Officials have not issued any citations and do not believe speeding or intoxication played a role in the incident.
The sheriff’s office extended sympathies to Stade’s family and urged anyone impacted by the tragic event to seek support through the Kenosha Human Development Services Crisis Line, which operates around the clock.
Kenosha County Eye originally reported on the crash last week while the victim’s identity was still being withheld pending notification of his family.
Highway 31, where the crash occurred, is known for its steady traffic throughout the day and night. Area residents have raised ongoing concerns about pedestrian safety in that stretch, particularly after dark.
Stade’s death is the most recent pedestrian fatality in the county this year. The case remains under active review by authorities.
