Will Austin dies in fatal Glenroy shooting

Fatal Glenroy shooting death of Will Austin – Obituary

Will Austin, a 28-year-old Wurundjeri father, was discovered dead inside a residence on Mitchell Street in Glenroy, a northern suburb of Melbourne, on Monday. His death led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man near the New South Wales border, who has since been charged with murder.

Austin’s father, Bill Nicholson, described him as a proud Wurundjeri man deeply connected to his culture and community. “He was a warrior taken from us far too soon,” Nicholson said, expressing sorrow over the ongoing violence claiming young lives.

Family members took to social media to mourn the loss, with Ky-ya Nicholson Wards recalling Austin’s kind nature and hopeful spirit in the days before his passing. She praised his love for his child, Jordy, and vowed to carry on his legacy by supporting the boy as he grows up.

The accused was apprehended in Albury on Monday afternoon and appeared in Albury Local Court on Tuesday, where Victorian authorities secured his extradition. He will appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday to face the murder charge.
