Fatal Newberry shooting death of Breanna Bates – Obituary

Breanna Bates, a 25-year-old woman from Newberry, South Carolina, was tragically shot and killed during the afternoon of May 19 in an incident that has led to multiple arrests.

 

Police responded to reports of gunfire around 3:15 p.m. on the 1800 block of Charles Street, where they discovered Bates suffering from a gunshot wound. She was later confirmed dead by an autopsy conducted by Newberry County Coroner Laura Kneece.

 

Authorities have taken three suspects into custody in connection with the shooting: Keonte Montrez Caughman, 20; IJavion Cheek, 17; and IMaurion Lil’Travis Cheek, 19, all residents of Newberry. Each faces charges of murder and attempted murder. Police Chief Kevin Goodwin indicated that the investigation remains active and additional arrests may be forthcoming.

 

The Newberry Police Department, along with the Newberry County Coroner’s Office and the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, continue to investigate the case.
