Fatal NSW Mid North Coast flooding death of David Knowles – Obituary
David Knowles, a 63-year-old farmer from Moto, was confirmed as one of three victims who lost their lives in severe flooding that struck the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. His body was discovered on the veranda of his home on North Moto Road, northeast of Taree, where floodwaters had risen dangerously.
The catastrophic conditions have triggered over 330 flood rescues in just one day. Emergency services, including rescue helicopters, have been deployed to help residents, particularly in Taree where water levels have reached rooftops. In Port Macquarie, the SES issued a warning that evacuation was no longer possible due to submerged roads.
A second victim, a man in his 30s, was found deceased in floodwaters near Rosewood, roughly 4km west of Wauchope. The third confirmed fatality was a woman in her 60s, who drowned after her car was swept away on Morora Road, Brooklana. She had been traveling in a convoy with a police officer around 7pm Wednesday. Despite warnings not to proceed through the rising water, she continued driving and later contacted the officer for help. Her vehicle was located the following day with her body inside.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the region braces for more extreme weather in the coming days.
