Luis Enrique Silva Mendez, a 57-year-old contractor, was found dead inside a box at a home in north Harris County where he had gone for work. The disturbing discovery was made last Friday, and local authorities have since arrested Steven Eberly on murder charges.

According to Mendez’s wife, Orfilia Sara Lopez, her husband had left home that morning after dropping off their children at school to go to a job. She recalled their final moments together, with Mendez expressing his love and asking her to take care of the kids. Hours later, around 11:30 a.m., she received a phone call that changed everything—investigators informed her that her husband had been found dead.

Authorities say Mendez had been hired to do contracting work at the residence on Tim Allen Court. The suspect, Eberly, allegedly asked another individual to assist with moving furniture. That man reportedly discovered the body inside a box, prompting a call to the police.

Lopez is devastated and now raising their four children alone. She is demanding justice, emphasizing how deeply the loss has affected their family and expressing fear that such a tragedy could happen to someone else.

Steven Eberly is currently in custody with a bond exceeding $2 million. He is expected to appear in court again next month as investigators continue to determine the circumstances surrounding Mendez’s death.
