Fatal University subdivision shooting death of McKenzie Rideau – Obituary

McKenzie Rideau, a 16-year-old student at Lake Charles College Prep, was tragically killed early Tuesday morning during a shooting at a high school graduation celebration in the University subdivision of Lake Charles. The incident occurred shortly after midnight in the 500 block of Central Parkway, where a graduation party was being held at a rented home with no adults present.

 

Lake Charles Police have classified Rideau’s death as a homicide and are actively investigating the case. Police Lieutenant Brenda Treadway has urged anyone with information to contact the Lake Charles Police Department.

 

Principal Freddie Harrison expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing McKenzie as a bright light within the school community. She was a dedicated member of the volleyball team and the flag line, known for her infectious energy, determination, and kindness. Harrison praised her for making others feel welcomed and accepted, highlighting the lasting impact she had on those around her.

 

The community mourns the loss of a young life taken too soon, while authorities continue efforts to uncover more details about the fatal shooting.
