Fatal Hammond shooting death of Montelle D. Lang – Obituary

Montelle D. Lang, a 29-year-old resident of Chicago, was one of two individuals fatally shot in a double homicide that occurred early Sunday morning in Hammond, Indiana.

 

Authorities from the Lake County Coroner’s Office reported that they were called to the 500 block of Michigan Street just before 4:30 a.m. on May 18. Upon arrival, they discovered Lang and another man, 23-year-old Gary Shanklin of East Chicago, both suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.

 

Shanklin, who lived in the 4800 block of Walsh Avenue, was declared deceased at the scene at 5:22 a.m. Officials have classified both deaths as homicides.

 

The Hammond Police Department is asking anyone with information about the incident to reach out at 219-853-6490.
