Amar Rooplal dies in fatal St. Madeleine stabbing

Fatal St. Madeleine stabbing death of Amar Rooplal – Obituary

Businessman Amar Rooplal of San Fernando, Trinidad, was discovered dead early Monday morning with his throat cut and multiple stab wounds along Cedar Hill Estate Road in St. Madeleine.

Around 4:40 a.m. on May 20, 2025, security personnel patrolling the area came upon Rooplal’s body lying in a pool of blood on the roadside. He was later identified by a female relative, with police confirming his identity in part due to the word “AMAR” tattooed across his right-hand fingers.

Rooplal, who resided in Tarodale Gardens, was the victim of a brutal killing that has sent shockwaves through the community. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case and are working to determine the motive behind the murder.

The violent incident has sparked widespread outrage, with citizens voicing their concerns about the growing crime rate in Trinidad and Tobago. Some called for stricter punishments, including the reinstatement of the death penalty, while others criticized political leadership and the justice system for failing to curb the violence.

Community members have also expressed fear for local business owners, suggesting that entrepreneurs are increasingly becoming targets in the country. Many took to social media to share their condolences and call for justice in Rooplal’s case.
