Fatal Brooklyn half-marathon running death of Charles Rogers – Obituary

Charles Rogers, 31, tragically passed away after participating in a half-marathon in Brooklyn on May 17. Rogers, a former college football player, collapsed about eight miles into the 13.1-mile race, which was his first competitive run, according to officials from the New York Road Runners. Emergency responders confirmed he experienced a medical emergency along Ocean Parkway and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rogers began his football career as a defensive back at Iowa State University in 2012 before transferring to the University of Minnesota in 2015. After an injury during that season, he moved to Lindenwood University in Missouri, where he continued playing. Both universities paid tribute to Rogers on social media, expressing their condolences to his family and friends.

His sister Tiffany Bass and sister-in-law Ashley Squires have started GoFundMe campaigns to help cover funeral costs and support Rogers’ wife, Sydney, as the family mourns this heartbreaking loss. The New York Road Runners expressed deep sorrow over Rogers’ passing and extended sympathies to his loved ones.

Sydney Rogers shared that Charles was fiercely competitive and gave his all to everything he did. He is remembered for being fully himself and is dearly missed by his wife and family.
