Fatal Denver hit-and-run death of Christopher Tafoya – Obituary
Christopher Tafoya, a 27-year-old Denver resident, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run early Sunday morning while walking along Interstate 25. His body was found around 4:01 a.m. near West 23rd Avenue, according to the Denver Police Department. The incident occurred on his birthday.
Authorities reported that Tafoya was walking on the right shoulder of the highway when he was struck by a southbound vehicle. The driver failed to stop or assist, fleeing the scene without being identified. Investigators believe the vehicle may have sustained damage to its passenger side.
Loved ones, including his uncle Himon Robles, described Tafoya — affectionately called “Peewee” — as a lively, kind-hearted man who loved nature, his family, and his faith. A vigil was held earlier this week in his memory. He leaves behind a daughter, a twin sister, and many relatives.
While grieving, the family is asking the public for help identifying the driver and is urging the person responsible to come forward. “You took away a father, a son, a brother,” said Robles. “My nephew would have wanted justice, not hate.”
Metro Denver Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for tips leading to an arrest. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling 720-913-7867.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help the family cover funeral expenses.
