Dave Shapiro, a pilot with personal and professional ties to New York’s Capital Region, lost his life in a plane crash that occurred just before 4 a.m. Pacific Time in a San Diego neighborhood. The crash also resulted in the deaths of two other individuals.

According to publicly available information on his social media, Shapiro was a graduate of Bethlehem High School. In addition to being a pilot, he owned a flight training school and managed a music agency that worked with well-known artists, including Vanessa Carlton and Canadian band Sum 41.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are examining weather conditions at the time of the incident, noting heavy fog in the area. Authorities are also looking into the possibility that the aircraft may have hit a power line before going down.
