Fatal Granville County shooting death of Demonte Ricks – Obituary

A young man from Butner, Demonte Ricks, 17, was fatally shot Monday evening in the Stem area, authorities confirmed.

The Granville County Sheriff’s Office reported that Ricks was hit by gunfire from a passing vehicle near Little Pond Road just before 8:30 p.m. Emergency responders tried to save him at the scene, but he succumbed to his injuries.

Two suspects, Jose Antonio Flores-Rodriguez and an unnamed juvenile who is being charged as an adult, have been arrested in Duplin County and face murder charges related to the shooting. Officials are asking anyone with information or surveillance footage of the incident to contact the Granville County Sheriff’s Office.
