Fatal Quincy car crash death of Erika Martinez Chavez – Obituary

The body of 24-year-old Erika Martinez Chavez was discovered in an irrigation canal near Quincy, Washington, on Tuesday after her vehicle was found submerged in the water.

Authorities believe Chavez lost control while driving north along a maintenance road that runs beside the canal near Road 7-Northwest and Road R-Northwest. A helicopter pilot flying over a nearby orchard on Monday spotted the submerged vehicle and quickly notified emergency personnel.

Recovery crews arrived the following day to extract the car and Chavez’s body from the canal, which spans 75 feet wide and has a depth of approximately 20 feet. She had last communicated with her family on Sunday evening.

The Grant County Coroner’s Office, led by Craig Morrison, is expected to conduct an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death. Chavez’s family has been informed of the tragic incident, and an investigation remains ongoing.
