Jeanette Johnson dies in fatal Newark parking lot crash

Fatal Newark parking lot crash death of Jeanette Johnson – Obituary

Authorities in Newark responded to a vehicle-pedestrian collision just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the parking area of the Newark Shopping Center, located in the 200 block of East Main Street near Newark Natural Foods.

 

According to early findings, Jeanette Johnson, an 89-year-old woman from North East, Maryland, was walking through the parking lot toward nearby businesses when she was hit by a pickup truck moving through the lot.

 

Officers from the Newark Police Department, along with emergency personnel from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company, arrived quickly and began life-saving measures. Johnson was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where she later died from her injuries.

 

The Newark Police Department’s Traffic Response Unit is actively reviewing the circumstances of the crash. Authorities have not yet filed charges, as the case remains under investigation with the Delaware Attorney General’s Office.
