Kelsie Martin and Hallie Helms, both 22-year-old students at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville, lost their lives in a targeted shooting incident at Wilgus Hall on Monday afternoon. The university described the tragedy as an isolated event involving only the two individuals.

Law enforcement responded swiftly to the scene, issuing a temporary shelter-in-place order as they secured the area. Martin, from Beloit, and Helms, from Baraboo, were found deceased in the dormitory, with authorities confirming the incident as a murder-suicide.

Final exams were canceled for the week, and counseling services have been made available to support students dealing with the emotional aftermath.
