Fatal Escondido hit-and-run crash death of Miguel Leonides Garcia – Obituary

Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with a deadly hit-and-run that claimed the life of 58-year-old Miguel Leonides Garcia in Escondido. Garcia was struck and killed while walking to work on the morning of September 17, 2024, at the intersection of Mission Avenue and Broadway.

After an extensive seven-month investigation, police located the vehicle involved and identified 42-year-old Lair Marin Salas of Escondido as the driver. Salas was taken into custody and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges of hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.

 

Escondido Police noted that their detectives dedicated hundreds of hours to gathering and analyzing evidence in the case. Interim Police Chief Ryan Banks praised the efforts of the investigative team, expressing confidence that their work would help bring justice to Garcia’s loved ones.
